About Us

The Ottawa Professional Fire Fighters Association (IAFF Local 162) was organized January 18, 1919 and represents more than 950 firefighters, safety officers, fire investigators, prevention officers, dispatchers, training officers, and maintenance technicians employed by Ottawa Fire Services.

Our Government Relations Committee works to build and maintain relationships with all elected representatives at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government. The committee stays current on legislative issues that may affect firefighters or the broader labour movement and keeps our members informed. Members of the committee represent us at legislative conferences and events during which they meet with decision-makers to discuss issues of consequence to our organization and its members.
